A wealth of experience
Ranee D. Strawn is a property staging professional, with a wealth of design knowledge and experience. In addition to learning the business of staging from the best in the industry, Debra Gould, Ranee has an interior design degree from Harrington College of Design in Chicago. She developed a trained eye for property value as an Illinois licensed real estate appraiser. In addition, her color sense was honed over time in the stained glass custom-production environment.
A marketable product
Ranee knows how to turn your home into a product with broad market appeal. She understands the need to inspire the buyer’s emotional connection with your home. She knows how to create the certainty – starting at the curb – that your home is The One!
What is the staging process?
During an initial two to three hour staging consultation, Ranee will review your home with a “buyer’s eye.” She may suggest buyer-motivating improvements, such as:
- Eliminating clutter
- Rearranging existing furnishings, art and accessories
- Making minor repairs
- Reviewing – perhaps changing – paint colors
- Deep cleaning and
- Creating “model” appeal with new linens, additional plants and accessories.
Or the suggestions may be more involved, including:
- Replacement of outdated flooring, cabinets, countertops or fixtures
- Change or addition of new lighting
- Cleaning and/or painting of the exterior and
- “Up-styling” of landscaping.
Can I do it all myself?
- You may choose to accomplish Ranee’s recommendations yourself. She is willing, however, to take much of that additional stress off your shoulders by providing her continued design direction and assistance.
- If you choose to do everything yourself, Ranee will provide a list of professional service providers to get you started and help you prioritize your efforts.
Should I stage a vacant home?
Definitely! Vacant homes need the visual softening, echo reduction and inspiration of rental furnishings to appeal to the majority of buyers. Furnished rooms spotlight a home’s best features and help buyers envision how their own pieces could be used.
Is staging worth the cost?

- A staged home invites a higher list price.
- A staged home creates the potential of a high return on your investment and costs a fraction of a list price reduction. For example, an investment of $1,000 in staging could easily save $5,000 – $10,000 in price reductions.
- A staged home inspires higher, often competitive, offers.
Content where you are?
- Staying in place may be your choice. If so, then “restyling” could be what you need to get that “new home feel” without moving.
- Through restyling, Ranee will use the principles of staging to evaluate the way you live in your home, then rearrange, repurpose and refresh your spaces so you can fall in love with your home all over again.
